Harold Steen Daylilies

Harold Steen is among the most respected names in Wisconsin Daylily circles. Harold founded the Daylily Society of Southeastern Wisconsin in 1997 and, through that organization, has raised awareness and interest in the genus Hemerocallis across the region. He has been influential in raising funds and donating an impressive collection of daylilies to local botanical gardens as well as encouraging interest in daylilies through his educational presentations and extensive volunteer work.

Harold is a passionate daylily connoisseur and collector. At its peak his garden was home to over 350 of some of the very finest cultivars available. Every winter Harold would pore over daylily catalogs and very selectively order the best-of-the-best, often spending hundreds of dollars on a single plant. In this way he grew his private collection to be one of the finest in the Midwest. Each July bus tours would pull up in front of his garden to allow visitors from across the region to experience the glory of a truly exceptional daylily collection.

After many happy years of gardening on his large property in Hartland, Harold has decided to downsize. He has moved to the Chicago area and only has room for a handful of his beloved daylilies to move with him. The remaining 300+ varieties are being shared with botanical gardens, daylily display gardens, fellow connoisseurs…and Monches Farm. We are thrilled to be among those selected for the privilege of purchasing a small portion of Harold’s extensive collection of premier daylilies.

In 2015 we will be offering these plants for sale. This is an opportunity to obtain some of the very finest daylilies on the market at an affordable price. Due to their initial high value they will be offered them as single fan divisions, which will be custom dug upon order. Each single fan division will be priced at $19.
