Art in Bloom 2011

Art in Bloom is in its fourth very successful year and Monches Farm was pleased to once again be a part of this exciting event, which pairs area floral designers with pieces of art from MAM’s collection and asks that the florists interpret the art in flowers. Art in Bloom gives every indication of becoming an annual affair and we are thrilled to see it added to the list of lakefront traditions!

This year our floral designer, Johanna Kleckner, was asked to interpret a 1955 abstract painting by artist Hans Hartung. Johanna saw in the brown & black slashes on a contrasting white background an image of the earth during its winter rest. Her piece reflects this through her use of earth-toned natural materials including stems, branches, feathers and stone. Her simple design reflects the quietude of the season and the quince branches just breaking into bud symbolizes the emergence of spring out of the dark of winter.
