There's nothing like stepping out into the garden and clipping your own fresh herbs to add to your favorite summer dishes. We carry a wide selection of both perennial & annual herbs. Below find listed some of what you'll find available at the Farm. |

BASIL | The scent & flavor of summer! Use in salads, curries, teas and sandwiches. Varieties include 'Broadleaf Sweet', 'Mammoth' and 'Pesto Perpetuo' (variegated). Annual. |
BORAGE | Clusters of hanging sky blue star shaped flowers. Cucumber flavored flowers & foliage can be used in salads. Annual. |
CHAMOMILE | Apple scented foliage. White flowers. Dry for use in teas. Annual. |
CHERVIL | Finely cut fern-like leaves have a mild sweet licorice flavor. Excellent in salads or cooking. Revered by French cooks and considered one of the classic "Fines Herbes". Annual. |
CHIVES | Chop leaves to flavor salads and for use in fish and potato dishes. Self sows. Perennial. |
CILANTRO (AKA CORIANDER) |
Leaves used in Asian, Mexican and Middle Eastern cuisine. Seeds used for pickling. |
COSTMARY | Also known as "Bible Leaf". Mint scented foliage. Used in teas and as moth preventive. Perennial. |
DILL | Excellent in fish dishes, salads, omelets and herb butters. Essential for pickling! Beloved by beneficial insects. Annual. |
FENNEL | Celery-like stalks and feathery dill-like foliage. Sweet anise scent and flavor. Varieties include 'Florence' and Bronze Leaf. Annual. |
LAVENDER | Highly fragrant silver foliage used in potpourri as well as in baking & teas. Perennial. |
LEMON BALM | Lemon scented & flavored foliage used in teas, fruit dishes, candies and as a mosquito repellent. Perennial. |
LEMON MINT | Fragrant lemony-mint scented foliage and whorls of violet colored flowers. Excellent as a dried flower or for garnish or teas. |
LEMON VERBENA | Strongly lemon scented leaves for use in teas, jams, salads, liqueurs & garnishes. Annual. |
LOVAGE | Celery-like foliage. Use leaves & stems in soups, stews & salads. Seeds used in baking. Perennial. |
MARJORAM, SWEET | Use in meat dishes and pasta. Similar to Oregano but sweeter. Annual. |
MINT | Pungent foliage used in teas, beverages, jellies & syrups. Colonizing Perennial. |
MYRRHIS | "Sweet Cicely". Strongly anise-scented/flavored foliage & seeds. Used historically for medicinal uses. Currently used occasionally in baking. Perennial. |
NASTURTIUM | High in vitamin C. Crisp peppery taste is a great addition to salads or as a garnish. Annual. |
PARSLEY | Green leaves used in sauces, butter, dressings & stuffing. Varieties include Plain Italian and Triple Curled. Annual. |
ROSEMARY | Leaves used in meat
dishes, potato dishes, soups, stews and vinegars. Perennial but
not winter hardy in Wisconsin. Bring indoors to a bright window
to overwinter. We also carry the variety 'Hill Hardy' which is
selected for the ability to survive temperatures to -15 ◦F. |
RUE | Attractive glaucous blue-green foliage. Has been used medicinally in the past but should not be taken internally or topically as it contains caustic oils that can cause severe reactions. Perennial. |
SAGE | Silvery foliage. Use in sausages, stuffing, tea. Will overwinter outdoors with protection. Perennial. We also have the more tender but very ornamental 'Tricolor' and 'Golden' culinary sages. |
SALAD BURNET | Nutty cucumber-like taste. Use in soups, stews, salads and in wines. Perennial. |
SAVORY, SUMMER | Use in soups, stews, gravies, stuffing & salad dressing. Annual. |
SAVORY, WINTER | Use for flavoring salads, dressings, stews & stuffing. Perennial. |
SHUNGIKU | EDIBLE CHRYSANTHEMUM. Use fresh green leaves & yellow flowers in salads & stir fries. Oriental heirloom herb. |
SORREL | Leaves have distinctive tart/sweet tanginess. Use in soups, stews & salads. Use sparingly as large doses can be dangerous. Perennial. |
STEVIA | "Sugarleaf Plant". The leaves of Stevia are 300 times sweeter than sugar. Use as a sugar substitute sweetener. Annual. |
TARRAGON | Anise flavored leaves good for use with fish, veal, chicken, eggs, sauces, soups, vinegars. Perennial to Zone 8. |
THYME | Used to flavor marinades, vegetables, meat dishes & fish dishes. Perennial. |
VIETNAMESE CORIANDER | aka RAU RAM. Harvest leaves when tender & young. Pungent, tangy flavor. Use in salads or to garnish Asian noodle dishes. Overwinter indoors or treat as annual. |
