Blooming Today (April 19, 2010/ April 29, 2013)
Corydalis solida (syn. Corydalis bulbosa)

We love this plant as an early season "opener" for the deciduous shade garden. Lacy glaucous blue/grey leaves emerge very early in spring, forming a tidy mound 6"-8" high. Atop the foliage are borne delicate funnel-shaped mauve-purple flowers. As the flowers age they take on a blue color. This plant self-sows and will eventually create a spring carpet in the shade garden and then disappear underground into dormancy in time to allow the next show to begin (Hosta, ferns, etc.).
