Although we are primarily an herbaceous plant nursery we do carry a handful of shrubs that we feel are particularly well suited for use as companion plants in the perennial border. Hydrangeas fall into this category. We carry a half dozen types of Hydrangea and are fond of all of them (these include, 'Limelight'  'Vanilla Strawberry & Quickfire). All bear large 12"-16" showy flower clusters  in late summer & fall on strong sturdy stems. The flowers start out white and change to a rich deep rose-pink color as they age, creating a distinctive bi-color floral effect.  At maturity these shrubs will stand 4' to 12' in height, depending upon the variety, and provide a spectacular autumn floral display. The paniculata Hydrangeas bloom on new wood so pruning, if necessary, should be done in early spring before new growth begins.
