Delicate fern-like emerald green foliage forms a tight 18"-24" mound in spring. The round ruby-red buds atop the lacy foliage are so beautiful that we actually love this plant most when it is in bud. Buds open to single true red flowers in mid-May, earlier that most peonies. After flowering the foliage remains until about mid-summer, when it disappears into dormancy.
